Trong năm qua, các họa sĩ hiệu ứng đặc biệt ở các hãng phim cũng như cá nhân đã dùng Houdini tạo ra các hiệu ứng thật ấn tượng. Houdini Demo Reel 2008 là tổng hợp một số dự án phim như vậy. Có nhiều studio phim nổi tiếng cũng có mặt trong demo này như Rhythm and Hues , The Mill , Pysop, Asylum, Rising Sun Pictures. Nó có thể làm tốt các hiệu ứng khói lửa hoặc chất lỏng.
Houdini 10 is the first commercially-available application to slice up and distribute fluid simulations over a network of computers. 3D artists will benefit from faster simulation times in addition to the ability to create simulations at a much bigger size and scale than would be possible with a single computer. Studios and boutiques can integrate these distributed fluid sims using existing pipeline tools, or work with HQueue a new python-based job manager which can also distribute Mantra renderings. HQueue jobs can be launched using a Houdini output node and then monitored using HQueue’s artist-friendly web interface. For fluid simulations, each node on the farm can be equipped with Houdini Batch to process the slices and keep your workstation licenses free for interactive work.

* Multiprocessor systems should be configured with additional RAM
* Houdini supports multiprocessor compositing and rendering

* Recent generation 32 or 64-bit AMD or Intel processor (requires SSE or higher)
* Houdini supports MMX and Streaming SIMD (SSE2) where present
Disk Space
* 500 MB required for installation

* 3 Button mouse required
* Scroll wheel used where present
* Wacom tablet recommended for Houdini's brush-based tools
Graphics Card
* Workstation-class OpenGL graphics card (such as NVidia and ATI)
* Graphic Card drivers: NVidia: 169 or higher, ATI: 8.44 or higher.
* Minimum resolution: 1024 x 768; Recommended resolution: 1920 x 1200 (widescreen)
* Color depth of 16-bit+ required with 32-bit+ (“true color”) recommended
* Requires support for OpenGL 1.2 or later; Takes advantage of OpenGL 2.0 support if available
* Hardware-accelerated OpenGL required for optimum performance
* Performance may suffer with complex scenes on non-workstation graphics cards and on laptops
* Integrated Intel graphic cards are not supported
* Houdini does not require support for Direct3D (all viewports and interfaces use OpenGL)
Other
* Sound card and speakers/headset required for audio
* Class C network (TCP/IP) recommended for floating licenses
* Network support required for offline simulation, batch processing and rendering
* Internet browser required for connection to www.sidefx.com (Houdini Exchange and Forum)
* Video encoder required for creating AVI/QT/etc.
