Sao lưu và phục hồi ổ đĩa là chuyện tối quan trọng mà mọi newbie đều phải biết khi làm việc với máy tính của mình . Bạn phải tập sao lưu thường xuyên, ít ra là ổ C đã có cài XP Như thế, khi gặp bất cứ trục trặc nào ( virus phá, xung đột phần mềm với nhau ) , chỉ cần vài phút để phục hồi lại windows cũ, y hệt như lúc xưa một khi bạn có sẵn bản sao lưu ổ C còn tốt ở đĩa CD auto bootable , USB Flash Drive ... Không chịu khó tập làm sao lưu, đến khi có trục trặc máy tính, bạn sẽ hết đường cứu vãn, phải cài lại XP từ đầu, nhiều driver và mọi phần mềm khác sẽ phải mất nhiều giờ liền, hay nhiều ngày: Nay đã có thêm 1 phần mềm mới, có khả năng sao lưu ổ đĩa ngay lúc làm việc trong windows y hệt như Drive Snapshot 1.38 hay Acronis True Image 11, mà không cần gì cài thêm Microsoft NET Frame work 2.0 hay 30 như kiểu Norton Ghost 11, 12 .

Khi cài xong, nó chiếm khoảng 18,1 MB, do vậy bạn nên chọn cài vào một nơi khác ngoài ổ C . Bạn đừng nhầm R_drive image 40 của r-tt.com này, với Drive image 703 của Symantec ( mua lại bản quyền của Power Quest ), và nay đã đổi tên thành Image center 5.6 ( có mặt trong Hiren 93 ) I) Sử dụng phần mềm mới này ra sao?: Khi chạy bằng một shortcut của R-DriveImage.exe ở desktop, nó sẽ mở ra giao diện chính, có tên Action section .
Tuỳ theo bạn thích chọn làm tác vụ nào, cứ việc ấn next nhiều lần sẽ có wizard( một phù thuỷ hướng dẫn ), từng bước ( steps ) giúp bạn để làm sao hoàn thành từng tác vụ mà bạn đã lựa:
1) Create an image: tạo ra file hình ảnh cho từng phân vùng( partition) của đĩa cứng. Có nhiều mức khác nhau: làm nhanh ( kích thước lớn), chậm ( kích thước file đuôi arc: dạng chung của R-Drive image 40 , sẽ nhỏ hơn nhiều). Có thể chọn chép riêng phần data và bỏ hết pagefile.sys( file hoán chuyển của XP ). Nếu bạn chọn nén tối đa( khá chậm )ở phần này thường trên 5 phút, nhưng bù lại kích thước file hình ảnh, có đuôi arc sẽ nhỏ hơn Ghost, True Image và cả Drive snapshot nhiều. Nó tạo một file hình ảnh cho ổ C ngay trong windows lúc đang làm việc. Bạn không nên làm một tác vụ nào khác trong lúc backup, như thế tốc độ làm ra hình ảnh sẽ chậm lắm đấy
2) Restore from Image ( Phục hồi file hình ảnh ): không thể làm ngay trong windows mà ở môi trường khác như là CD cứu hộ, đĩa mềm, XPE, Hiren( nếu biết cách thêm vào ISO ), hay trong 1 windows khác ở ổ D ( Win2000, 2003, Win Media center ) . Bạn nên vào phần Create startup disks( nằm ngang với Create an Image): nó chỉ giúp bạn làm ra 2 đĩa mềm cứu hộ( ít dùng hơn do dễ hư đột xuất ), hay tạo ra file ISO ( nhằm ghi vào đĩa CD auto bootable ) 5.7MB . Khi cần phục hồi file hình ảnh cho C, đặt đĩa CD rescue này vào ổ CD-ROM, chọn trong CMOS first boot là CD-ROM, lưu cấu hình thoát ra.
Reboot máy lại, đĩa CD rescue của R-Drive Image giúp bạn vào môi trường tạm qua nhân Kernel ( kiểu Linux )không phải DOS hay môi trường PE.
Bạn cứ chọn restore an Image rồi theo đúng hướng dẫn của nó, tìm ra file hình ảnh đã sao lưu ở đâu ( source ) và chọn destination cuối là ổ C.
Phần phục hồi hình ảnh này trên CD khá phức tạp: phải qua nhiều bước hỏi han nhưng bạn nên vào phần help tìm hiếu thêm và phải tập làm vài lần mới quen.
Lưu ý, bao giờ bạn cũng nên có đĩa Hiren 93 và bản ghost ổ C để sẵn trong DVD hay phân vùng E, F , có gì lỡ chọn sai nơi phục hồi còn cơ may cứu vãn lại .
Tốc độ làm khá nhanh, chỉ vài phút là xong. Bạn cũng có thể tạo ra file hình ảnh và chép nguyên đĩa cứng ở đây( tốc độ lại chậm hơn khi làm trong Windows ).
3) Copy a disk to a disk: chép nguyên đĩa cứng qua đĩa cứng khác, ít dùng ngoại trừ khi thay máy tính mới.
4) Connect an image as a virtual disk: ít dùng, nạp hình ảnh ở ổ đĩa ảo, muốn gỡ ổ đĩa ảo này vào disconnect an image nằm bên cạnh đó
5) Create start up disks( tạo đĩa khởi động) : bằng 1 trong 2 cách : 2 đĩa mềm; tạo file ISO hoặc ghi ngay ra đĩa CDRD
6) Check an Image file: coi file hình ảnh arc có bị hư ở đoạn nào không, kẻo sau này khi phục hồi mà hư đột xuất, hối hận đã muộn.
7) Schedule /Create a script: ( theo định kỳ ): nếu bạn muốn lên kế hoạch sao lưu định kỳ cũng như muốn dùng dòng lệnh, hãy vào mục này .
Lưu ý, đây hoàn toàn hơi khác với các chương trình sao lưu phục hồi khác: không có chỗ nào để bạn xem phục hồi lại các file bên trong file hình ảnh dạng arc của R-Drive Image 40.
>II) Tiện lợi và bất tiện khi dùng R-Drive image 40 và so sánh với các chương trình sao lưu phục hồi ổ đĩa khác:
1) Những tiện lợi chủ yếu của R-Drive image 40
a) không cần cài thêm Microsoft Net Frame Work 2.0 hay 3.0( theo kiểu như Ghost 9, 10, 11; Drive image 703 ) chiếm hàng chục MB để làm việc được ngay trong windows .
b) Kích thước file tải về ( 7MB ) cài đặt vào windows cũng nhỏ, không đầy 18MB .
c) Chỉ dẫn làm đĩa CD rescue phục hồi miễn phí ( không giống như Ghost 11, 12 )
d) Kích thước file hình ảnh nén cao nhất( loại trừ file hoán chuyển) làm chậm hơn 1 vài phút nhưng lại nhỏ nhất so với Drive Snapshot( lớn nhất ) kế đến mới là ghost 11 , True image 11 .
e) Có hẳn phần check file hình ảnh làm ra coi có hư đột xuất không( y như Drive snapshot 138)
2) Bất tiện của R-Drive image 4.0:
a) Cách làm phục hồi với đĩa CD rescue còn hơi nhiêu khê, còn phải qua nhiều bước khó hiểu không đơn giản như Drive Snapshot138: chỉ cần 1 dòng lệnh ở autoexec.bat trong DOS thực là nó tự làm ngay, khỏi hỏi han lại.
b) Kích thước file tải về dù nhỏ 8MB nhưng bạn vẫn phải cài và không tiện như Drive Snapshot138 ( khỏi phải cài, chỉ cần 1 file không đầy 1MB là đủ.
c) Không có file exe để đọc file hình ảnh làm ra, nên khá bất tiện cho bạn khi cần phục hồi một vài files bên trong ấy.
III) Phần mềm nào sao lưu nào xếp hạng tốt nhất cho new bie và expert:1) Newbie: chỉ có Drive snapshot 1.38 làm sao lưu ngay trong windows, kích thước nhỏ nhất mà khỏi phải cài. Việc phục hồi lại quá dễ khi bạn đã có DOS thực trong XP , khỏi sợ sai.
Bạn nên tập làm quen với R-Drive image 40 nhưng lại không nên dùng Ghost 11( 32 bit trong một windows khác ) hay Ghost 11( DOS), vì lỡ phục hồi sai chỗ, máy tính sẽ hết reboot lại nữa .
2) Expert: nếu bạn thích dùng NTFS lại quen dùng Acronis True Image 10, 11 ; Ghost 11( 32 bít ), Ghost 12 .
Trong tương lai gần, R-Drive Image 40 sẽ thay thế dần vì kích thước làm ra file hình ảnh, thông minh hơn Ghost 11,12 vì loại trừ file hoán chuyển, không cần cài thêm Microsoft NET Frame work 20 và kích thước file tải về cũng nhỏ hơn nhiều.

R-Drive Image is a potent utility providing disk image files creation for backup or duplication purposes. A disk image file contains the exact, byte-by-byte copy of a hard drive, partition or logical disk and can be created with various compression levels on the fly without stopping Windows OS and therefore without interrupting your business. These drive image files can then be stored in a variety of places, including various removable media such as CD-R(W)/DVD, Iomega Zip or Jazz disks, etc.

R-Drive Image restores the images on the original disks, on any other partitions or even on a hard drive's free space on the fly. To restore system and other locked partitions R-Drive Image is switched to the pseudo-graphic mode directly from Windows or bootable version created by the utility is launched from CD disc or diskettes.

R-Drive Image is one of the best backup and disaster recovery solutions to prevent losing your data after a fatal system failure.
Using R-Drive Image, you can completely and rapidly restore your system after heavy data loss caused by an operating system crash, virus attack or hardware failure. You can also use R-Drive Image for mass system deployment when you need to setup many identical computers. In other words, you can manually setup one system only, create an image of the system, and then deploy it on all other computers, saving your time and costs. * Image files compression. Image files can be compressed to save free storage space.
* Removable media support. Image files can be stored on removable media.
* Network support. R-Drive Image bootable CD version supports disk image file creation and restoration over Microsoft network (CIFS protocol).
* Pseudo-graphic mode. Restart to the pseudo-graphic mode directly from Windows to restore data to the system and other locked partitions. No need to use startup disks any more.

* USB 2.0 devices support in the pseudo-graphic mode. With hard drives prices constantly going down, an external IDE-USB 2.0 HDD case with an appropriate hard drive is an ideal (fast and reliable) solution for notebooks and sealed PCs to backup system and other partitions that can be restored only in the pseudo-graphic mode. Do not use numerous unreliable CD discs and slow CD/DVD recorders any more. Remember: with the incremental backup, this hard drive is not to be too large.
* Bootable version. Special bootable disks (either 2 floppy disks or one CD) can be created to restore data to the system partition.
* Individual files and folders restoration. A disk image can be connected as a read-only virtual drive and its content can be viewed and copied.
* Image files splitting. Drive images can be split into several files to fit a storage medium.
* Image Protection. Disk image files can be password-protected and contain comments.
* File system conversion. The file system of the restored disk can be converted to another one (FAT16 to FAT32 and vise versa.).
* New partition creation. Data from a disk image can be restored on a free (unpartitioned) space on any place on a hard drive. The size of the restored partition can be changed.
* Partition replacement. Data from a disk image can be restored on other existing partitions. R-Drive Image deletes such partitions and restores data on that free space.
* Disk to Disk copy. An entire disk can be directly copied on another one.
* Image files verification. You may check if your image files are good before you store them or restore data from them.
* Scheduler. A time for disk image creation may be scheduled and the process can be run in unattended mode.
* Script creation for frequent or unattended actions. Such scripts for creating an image file and appending data to an existing image file are created from the R-Drive Image interface the same way the actual action is performed. Scripts are executed from a command line and such command can be included to any command file.
* Action Report. When disk image is successfully created or the action fails the report can be automatically sent over e-mail or an external application can be launched.

New R-Drive Image features in version 4.x :
* Windows Vista and 64 bit processors support. New R-Drive Image version supports all Windows Vista operating systems and 64 bit processors.
* Acceleration of image creation and disc copy operations. Asynchronous I/O and distributed the zlib compression library were added among different processors. As a result, users can see up to 200% speed gains in image creation and disc copy operations.
* Differential image creation. When the incremental/differential backup is being created, the differential image can be created by comparing the current data with the 128-bit hash of the original data without reading the main image. That speeds up the process of creating the incremental/differential image in any case, but also no need to change the original discs when writing the image to CD/DVD discs.
* Incremental image creation mode. In the previous versions the differential mode was available only.
* A bootable module can be written to a CD/DVD disc together with the image data. Thus it is possible to create one CD/DVD disc to boot and to restore the system.
* Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) support. In order to create a point-in-time snapshot of a database, the servers like Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL and Oracle are notified before backup process begins. The technology allows synchronizing the servers' database and creating the correct copies of quick-changeable data.
* Dynamic Disks and BSD slices support. Dynamic disks and BSD slices can be backup, restored and copied. The feature is supported in both Windows and bootable versions of R-Drive image. You may create an image of one disk or a volume of any type and then restore the image back to a dynamic or basic disk. However when such image is restored you may not change a size or other characteristics of the target disk. When you restore a dynamic disk image to a basic disk, the basic disk remains basic and is not converted to the dynamic disk.
* A flexible control over CD/DVD writing. That allows limiting the writing speed and cashing in the ISO file.
* Improved file format of the image created by the application.
* Writing to NTFS partitions. Now the R-Drive Image bootable version (based on the Linux kernel) supports writing to NTFS partitions as well as R-Drive Image Windows version.
